  • Grade 12 (Matric).

  • Diploma or Degree in Logistics / Supply Chain / Freight Forwarding (preferential).

  • 5-8 years’ experience in cross border freight coordination.

  • Strong experience managing Zimbabwe-South Africa road freight.

  • In-depth knowledge of customs legislation and import procedures.

  • Experience working with clearing agents and border authorities.

  • Advanced Excel experience.

  • Excellent understanding of Incoterms and SADC / SACU trade agreements.

Job Overview

Cross-Border Freight Management

  • Manage and coordinate all inbound shipments from Zimbabwe into South Africa (primarily road freight).

  • Plan and schedule collections from suppliers in Zimbabwe.

  • Coordinate border clearance processes at Beitbridge and other relevant border posts.

  • Monitor shipment movement and proactively resolve potential delays, especially border-related issues.

  • Ensure optimal routing and cost-efficient freight solutions.

Customs & Regulatory Compliance

  • Ensure full compliance with the requirements of SARS Customs.

  • Ensure correct tariff codes, valuation and supporting documentation.

  • Verify and approve clearing instructions to customs.

  • Manage and review documentation including:

  1. Commercial invoices.

  2. Packing lists.

  3. SAD500 documentation.

  4. Bils of Entry.

  5. Road Manifests.

  6. Certificates of origin (SACD / SACU where applicable).

  • Ensure compliance with SADC / SACU trade agreements to optimize duty benefits.

  • Manage risk related to border delays, inspections and customs queries.

Freight & Transport Coordination

  • Negotiate and review transporter contracts for Zimbabwe-South African routes.

  • Evaluate freight quotations and approve costs within authority limits.

  • Monitor transporter performance (transit time, compliance, damage rates).

  • Ensure proper insurance coverage for cross-border cargo.

Stakeholder Management

  • Act as primary liaison between:

  1. Zimbabwe-based suppliers

  2. Freight forwarders and transporters

  3. Customs clearing agents

  4. Warehouse and receiving teams in South Africa.

  • Provide regular shipment status updates to management.

  • Escalate and resolve operational issues efficiently.

Financial & Risk Control

  • Verify freight and clearing invoices before approval.

  • Track landed costs and identify cost-saving opportunities.

  • Monitor demurrage, detention, and storage costs.

  • Implement risk mitigation strategies for cross-border disruptions.

Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Maintain accurate shipment records and compliance documentation.

  • Generate monthly reports on:

  1. Transit times.

  2. Border delays.

  3. Freight costs.

  4. Clearance efficiency

  • Identify process gaps and implement improvements in cross-border logistics flow.
